Sacchetti Umberto

Studiò a Bologna con i maestri Corsi e Verati e debuttò nel 1903 al Sociale di Argenta in Cavalleria Rusticana. Nel 1906 cantò nella Compagnia di Operette Gordini Marchetti al Teatro Olimpia di Milano. Nel 1908 era scritturato al Vittorio Emanuele di Messina e si salvò dal terribile terremoto che distrusse la città. Nel 1906 si recò per la prima volta negli Stati Uniti dove ritornò nel 1911 per continuare la carriera durante la quale cantò sia nel Vaudeville che nelle compagnie di opera con le quali cantava in inglese. Durante le stagioni nel circuito Orpheum includeva in repertorio il "Prologo" dei Pagliacci. Nel 1912, meentre era a Boston si salvò dall'incendio che distrusse l'albergo dove soggiornava grazie all'intervento del baritono Olskansky. Ritornò in Italia dopo i cinquantacinque anni, passati fra successi artistici ed imprenditoriali grazie ad una sartoria di abiti di scena da lui fondata. Poi arrivarono i tempi duri, la Campagna d'Africa dove nel 1936 morì il suo unico figlio e poi la guerra. Scampato alle bombe non scampò ad un incauta distrazione: scambiò infatti per bevanda un liquido velenoso, bevuto durante una notte di bombardamenti e morì per la sua infausta distrazione.

He studied in Bologna with the teachers Corsi e Verati and he made his debut in 1903 at Sociale of Argenta in Cavalleria Rusticana. In 1906 he perfomed in the Operetta's Company "Gordini e Marchetti" at Olimpia Theater in Milan. In 1908 he was listed at Teatro Vittorio Emanuele of Messina and is saved by the terrible earthquake that destroyed the city. In 1906 he went for the first time in the United States where he returned in 1911 to continue his career during which sang both in Vaudeville and in opera companies with whom sang in English. During his performances in the Orpheum Circuit he included in his repertorie the baritone classic, the Prologue from Pagliacci. In 1912, while he was in Boston, saved himself by the fire that destroyed the hotel where he lived through the intervention of the baritone Olskansky. He returned to San Pietro in Casale after fifty years of age, passed through the successes on stage and in business, thanks to a tailoring of teatral clothes founded by him in America, and settled in a house still identifiable. Then came the hard times, the war of Africa, where in 1936 it died his only son and then the war. He saved by bombs, not saved to a fatal distraction: confused indeed for drink a poisonous liquid, drank during a night of bombing and died for his poor distraction.
