Arrivò molto giovane negli Stati Uniti dove studiò specializzandosi in Educazione Fisica tanto da essere abilitata ad insegnare nuoto ed atletica leggera nelle scuole. Nel 1911 si trasferì in Italia per continuare lo studio del canto debuttando probabilmente a Roma nel 1912.
She attended public schools in Brooklyn after her arrival from Russia with her parents when child and made a specialty of physical culture for years, with the result that she was appointed to teach swimming and athletics in the New York public schools. In 1911 she left her home to finish her studies in vocal music in Italy and she probably made her debut at Rome in 1912.
